PCHETA Reintroduced in the House
The Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act has been reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. AAHPM is working to maintain bipartisan support for the bill, targeting the Energy & Commerce Committee and previous Republican cosponsors. See if your representative is a target, and then urge their support of H.R. 647!

CMS to Test MA Hospice âCarve-Inâ for CY 2021
On Jan. 18, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced various Medicare Advantage innovations it will test under its Value-Based Insurance Design model for CY 2020. The VBID model will test including the Medicare hospice benefit in MA plans starting in CY 2021. Learn more.

Stakeholders Offer CMMI Recommendations for Serious Illness APM
AAHPM worked with C-TAC to send a letter to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation offering joint recommendations for design of a serious illness alternative payment model. Signed by 33 stakeholder supporters, the letter reflects key priorities for the field with regard to patient eligibility, participating providers, care model, payment and quality.

Annual Assembly hotels are filling up (76% full), 2019 MOC assessment registration is open, CMMI released a fact sheet for APMs, the AMA announced a new program, a member was on Jeopardy, and a staff member attended the AMA State Advocacy Summit. FDA Names AAHPM Past President Amy Abernethy Deputy Commissioner
The Food And Drug Administration has named AAHPM Past President Amy Abernethy, chief medical officer at Flatiron Health, to one of its highest positions, the Principal Deputy Commissioner for Food and Drugs. This position oversees initiatives that cut across offices that oversee the regulation of drugs, medical devices, tobacco and food. Read more.
